Flexible Deployment for Data Governance: SaaS, On-Prem, and Hybrid

Modern organizations operate in diverse IT environments. From fully cloud-native stacks to highly secure on-premises infrastructures. At Dawiso, we understand that no single deployment model fits all. That’s why we offer flexible deployment options for our data governance and cataloging platform, empowering enterprises to adopt the model that best suits their technical, regulatory, and operational needs.

Hybrid deployment

Hybrid deployment is a way of deploying software where the system is partly operated in the cloud and partly in the internal infrastructure (on-premises). It combines the advantages of both worlds, the flexibility and scalability of the cloud with the control and security of the local environment.

In practice, it may look like this:

  • Applications (e.g., user interface or database) run in the cloud, but some components (e.g., metadata collection tools, sensitive data, access to internal systems) are installed in the customer's infrastructure.
  • Metadata is retrieved from internal systems using a locally deployed connector, but the results are displayed via a cloud interface.

Hybrid deployment is beneficial when organizations need to:

  • Meet strict security or regulatory requirements,
  • Minimize data movement outside the organization,
  • Leverage the advantages of the cloud without a full infrastructure migration.

What hybrid deployment means in Dawiso

Dawiso itself (UI, REST API, AI tools, etc.) runs in the cloud, typically on MS Azure infrastructure, which is either hosted by Dawiso or by the customer on their own tenant.

However, metadata can be collected from the customer's internal systems via locally installed tools (called scanners or CLI utility). These run directly in the customer's environment (on-premises or on their private cloud) and send metadata to the Dawiso catalog over a secure connection.

That means:

  • Connect to internal systems such as databases or ETL tools,
  • Collect only metadata (e.g. table names, columns, data flows),
  • Send metadata securely to the Dawiso catalog,
  • Ensure no business data leaves the organization, unless explicitly configured to do so.

Hybrid deployment is ideal for companies that:

  • have sensitive data and strict security rules,
  • operate their own infrastructure (e.g., banks, insurance companies),
  • want to quickly take advantage of the Dawiso cloud, but without expensive and long-term internal deployment process.

Dawiso can be deployed in three main ways

Hybrid deployment, Saas, On-premise, Private Cloud
Hybrid deployment

1. SaaS (Software as a Service)

Dawiso SaaS is hosted in the Microsoft Azure Cloud, providing high availability, enterprise-grade security, and fast onboarding. In this model:

  • Metadata is stored and managed directly in Dawiso’s cloud infrastructure.
  • Customers access the platform via a secure web interface.
  • No local installation is needed, ideal for fast implementation and lower maintenance overhead.

One of the key advantages of deploying Dawiso as a SaaS solution over an on-premises setup is speed. We can spin up a new instance in just a few hours, allowing customers to get started quickly. In contrast, on-premises deployment typically requires a longer process, including securing hardware, obtaining internal approvals, allocating budget, and completing security assessments, all of which can introduce delays.

It’s also worth highlighting that our SaaS architecture is designed with data isolation in mind. Each client’s data is strictly separated. We do not use a multitenant database. This ensures a high level of security and privacy while still benefiting from the efficiency of a managed cloud service.

2. Private Cloud Deployment

For organizations with strict compliance requirements, we offer Dawiso as a managed service within your own Azure or AWS tenant under our Enterprise license. This option provides:

  • Full control over infrastructure.
  • Isolation of metadata storage within your cloud environment.
  • The convenience of SaaS without compromising data residency or ownership.

3. On-Premises Deployment

In cases where cloud deployment is not an option, such as in banking, government, or highly regulated industries, Dawiso can be installed directly into your internal IT environment. This gives you:

  • Complete control over data, infrastructure, and access.
  • Compliance with internal IT and legal policies.

Hybrid Deployment with Dawiso: Built for Modern Governance

At Dawiso, we believe that metadata governance should adapt to your organization, not the other way around. That’s why we built our hybrid deployment model with security, flexibility, and ease of use in mind.

When choosing a cloud strategy, it’s critical to partner with vendors that meet financial-sector compliance standards. Not all providers are equipped for regulated industries like banking. Look for proven financial-grade capabilities: regional hosting options, and certifications such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, and GDPR. Dawiso integrates smoothly into such environments, respecting your infrastructure, security posture, and regulatory boundaries.

In hybrid environments, metadata often becomes fragmented between cloud-based and on-premises tools. Dawiso solves this by providing a centralized metadata catalog that unifies your view across the entire ecosystem. This includes:

  • Lineage tracking from both cloud and on-prem sources
  • Ownership and documentation in a consistent governance model
  • Role-based access controls to ensure secure collaboration

If you're looking to scale your data catalog across departments or enforce secure metadata collection practices, Dawiso’s hybrid approach offers the best of both worlds: a modern SaaS experience backed by enterprise-grade deployment flexibility.
